Inspiration

Inspiration is where you choose to see. Inspiration is about challenging conventional points of view and seeing a larger picture. So this is a page to share what is inspiring to me – please put yours, too!

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is my true idol. She is a strong and charming woman, a writer and storyteller. In her talks, she refers to her own experiences in Nigeria, „where [her] heart is“, and in the US. She speaks of the interconnections between herself and the differing worlds, and ends up making conclusions, which are always personal, but political on a wider scale. Listening to her makes me laugh, then almost cry in the next moment, because she is so much speaking from the heart. Her latest novel Americanah has been published all over the world. Auf Deutsch: Americanah, aus d. Engl. v. Anette Grube, S.Fischer, 2014.

The Danger of a Single Story (TED Talk, 2009)

„Stories matter. Many stories matter. (..) Stories can be used to empower and to humanize. (..) Stories can repair broken dignities. (…) There is never a single story about any place.“

What if we started to listen to different stories, seeing people and places from different perspectives?

We should all be feminists (TED Talk, 2013)

„Culture does not make people, people make culture. If it is true that the full humanity of women is not our culture, then we must make it our culture.“

„A feminist is a man or a woman who says, yes, there is a problem with gender as it is today, and we must fix it, we must do better!“
